“Muhurta” or the best time to start or do a thing so that its effect is maximum and the losses are none or negligible. Earlier it was practiced only by Indians but as the popularity of Hindu astrology began to spread worldwide – we now see many country heads taking oath at a time prescribed by an Indian Astrologer. There are many ways to calculate “muhurta” and I am going to tell about one which everyone can do easily.
Hindu astrology consists of 12 signs, 9 planets, 12 houses, 27 constellations. The whole universe is divided into 12 equal parts of 30 degrees to complete the circle of 360 degrees. Every sign has 9 padas of 3 degree 20 mins of 2 ¼ constellations.
Each of the nine planets rules over two signs except sun and moon which have ruler ship over only one sign. Each planet rules over 3 constellations which are:
PLANET CONSTELLATIONS(nakshatras)
KETU ASHWINI –MAGHA- MOOL
VENUS BHARINI-POORVAFALGUNI-POORVAASHADHA
SUN KRITTIKA-UTTARFALGUNI-UTTARASHADHA
MOON ROHINI-HAST-SHRAVAN
MARS MRIGSHIRA-CHITRA-DHANISHTHA
RAHU AARDRA-SWATI-SATABHISHA
JUPITER PUNARVASU-VISHAKHA-POORVABHADRAPADA
SATURN PUSHYA-ANURADHA-UTTARBHADRAPADA
MERCURY ASHLESHA-JYESHTHA-REVATI
At the time of our birth, the sign in which moon is transiting, becomes our moon sign or janma rashi. As told earlier, every sign has 2 ¼ constellations and moon is transiting in a particular constellation at the time of birth. The heavenly bodies are at movement always including planet Earth. The star in which moon is transiting, becomes our birth star or janm nakshatra. There are nine stages or positions of stars counted from our birth star, which are:
1) Janm
2) sampat
3) vipat
4) kshem
5) pratyari
6) saadhak
7) nidhan(Death)
8) mitra(friend)
9) param mitra(very close friend)
Suppose at the time of one`s birth moon is in Aquarius sign and in satabhisha star. This star is ruled by rahu. Jupiter is the planet which is counted after rahu. The table above is the dasha sequence of the planet and is counted in the same way. Thus Saturn will come after Jupiter and so on.
So, from satabhisha – Poorvabhadrapada which is ruled by Jupiter will be Sampat and Uttarbhadrapad will be vipat. 1,2,4,6,8,9 are good for native and 3,5,7 are bad as per your natal chart.
Thus, vipat – pratyari- nidhan nakshatras should be avoided always for anything new – purchase, travel, child birth etc.
When you wish to start a new thing – anything, check the constellation in which moon is transiting from your birth star – it should be favorable. The other planet to check is the 9th lord, it should be in favorable zone and both moon and ninth lord should not be transiting in any of 6, 8, 12 houses. A good assessment of the prevailing Dasha, Antara lord will also be very beneficial. So, by little practice you can find out which time is most favorable for you to start or initiate new things.
