Karva chauth – Married women observe fast from sunrise to moonrise for the longevity of their husbands. They end their fast by worshiping the moon. Unmarried girls too can observe this fast in order to get a desired husband. They end their fast by seeing a star. The fast is nirjala that is not even a drop of water should be consumed.
Sawan – month is the fifth month according to the Hindu calendar. It is considered as the holiest month dedicated to Lord Shiva. Teej – is the monsoon festivals. It is of 3 types namely Haryali Teej, Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej. The festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva nd Goddess Parvati union. Married women observe fasts to get blessings from the two for the well being of their husbands.
Shoonya Shayan Vrat – The fast is observed on the 2nd day of Shukla paksha in the month of Shravan. Keeping this fast gives longevity. Both husbands and wives can observe. The day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi. Worship their idol and fast for 4 months to seek the blessings of long life of the partner for 3 lives.
16 Mondays – Mondays are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Unmarried women who keep fasts on 16 Mondays are able to get a suitable husband for themselves and married ones for safety and protection of their households. It is said that Goddess Parvati observed these fasts to attain Lord Shiva as her husband.
Viyog Triteeyaa Vrat – The fast is observed on the 2nd day of Shukla Paksha in Maargsheersh Maas that is 9th month. Women observe to not be separated from their husband and become widow. The day is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The festival continues for 3 days. Women Fast and end by eating kheer at night. Next day they make an idol of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati with rice and worship. Next day they donate the idol to Brahmins.
Vat Purnima – Purnima means full moon and it is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the jyeshtha month that is June in the Hindu calendar. On this auspicious day, married women worship banyan tree for the prosperity and longevity of their husbands. It is done in due respect to Savitri, the legend wife who protected her husband from the God of death, Yama.
Vat Savitri – is celebrated on Amavasya of jyeshtha month which is no moon day in the Purnimanta calender . The festival coincides with Shani Jayanti. The rituals and procedure is same as Vat Purnima festival.
Guru Nanak Jayanti – Many married women observe fasts on this day to seek blessings from the almighty for the longevity of their husbands. The fast is nirjala that is not even a drop of water should be consumed.
Swarna Gauri Vratam – The day is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. The festival is special for unmarried women who observe fast to get a desirable husband. Married women also observe for peaceful married life. The festival coincides with Ganesha chaturthi.
Janamashtami – is the Birthday of Lord Krishna. On one hand where devotees celebrate his birthday with singing and dancing, on the other hand, unmarried girls observe fast and pray for a good husband. The fast longs for 24 hours. Women end at 12 in the night after worshiping Lord Krishna and moon.
Rambhaa (Gauree) Vrat – is observed from sunrise till sunset on the 3rd day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha. The day is dedicated to Goddess Sita. Worship Sita’s idol and donate it to a Brahman couple after ending the fast. The fast is observed for good fortune, husband like Lord Rama and happy married life.
Ashok Vrat – The fast is observed on the 1st day of Shukla paksha in the Aashwin month. Women observe this fast in order to become beloved to their husbands. They worship Ashok tree with satnaja that is 7 grains and take rounds around the tree. It is said that Goddess Sita observed this fast too.
Madhook Triteeyaa Vrat – The festival takes place on the 3rd day of Phaalgun Shukla. The day is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. One who observe this fast get desired husband from Goddess Parvati. Women worship Madhook tree with the image of Goddess Parvati meditating under the tree, in mind. The tree played an important role in Sagar manthan back times.
