Pooja Vidhi for Janamashtami

The festival of our dearest Krishna is special in its own sense. Devotees shower their love and care on the idol of child kanha. The celebrations take place in each and every temple of Lord Krishna. To proceed with a proper ritual of Pooja, given below are the steps –

Dhyanam (ध्यानम्)
Meditate Lord Krishna in your mind and relax. Do not think of anything else.

Avahanam (आवाहनं)
Now join your hands and pray in front of the idol. Chant Lord Krishna’s mantras.

Asanam (आसनं)
Offer five flowers in fromt of the idol. This is considered as the seat to Shri krishan.

Padya (पाद्य)
After offering the seat, wash the feet of the idol.

Arghya (अर्घ्य)
Now do water abhishek that is pour water from head.

Achamaniyam (आचमनीयं)
After this offer water to drink. Te water should be pure and impurities free.

Snanam (स्नानं)
After this, give a bath to the idol.

Offer moli as new clothes to the shri Krishna.

Yajnopavita (यज्ञोपवीत)
Offer Yajnopavita. It is kind of a sacred thread normally worn by Brahmans.

Gandha (गन्ध)
Offer scent to lord Krishna.

Abharanam Hastabhushan (आभरणं हस्तभूषण)
Now offer jeweler to the idol of shri Krishna.

Pushpa (पुष्प)
Now offer flowers to Lord Krishn.

Atha Angapuja (अथ अङ्गपूजा)
Now worship those Gods who are body parts of Shri Krishna itself.

Dhupam (धूपं)
Now offer Dhup to Shri Krishna.

Deepam (दीपं)
Now offer Deep to Shri Krishna.

Naivedya (नैवेद्य)
Now offer Naivedya to Shri Krishna. It can be your hand made prashad which I will tell afterwards.

Tambulam (तांबूलं)
Now offer Tambula which is (Paan with betel nuts).

Dakshina (दक्षिणा)
Now offer Dakshina (gift) to Shri Krishna.

Maha Nirajan (महा नीराजन)
Now offer Nirajan (Aarti) to Shri Krishna. Make sound of bells and drums.

Pradakshina (प्रदक्षिणा)
Now offer symbolic Pradakshina (circumambulate from left to right of Shri Krishna). Aarti ki thali.

Namaskar (नमस्कार)
Now pay homage to Shri Krishna that is bow your head and pray.

Kshamapan (क्षमापन)
After Namaskar, seek pardon from Shri Krishna for any known-unknown mistakes done during Puja.
