Achaleshwar Temple

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is very famous in the Hindu culture. It is said that Lord Shiva’s son Kartikay came here to reside permanently and thereafter the temple is built here. The temple is huge and worshipped Lord Kartikay in it. Opposite this temple, the temple of Lord Shiva’s is also here. Due to these temples, Sikh tourists are attracted to visit as in front of the temple, there is a huge Gurudwara where Guru Nanak Dev married Sukharni.

History

Once upon a time, Lord Shiva asked Kartikay and Ganesha to take a round of the earth and the one who will do that first will get a chance to help devtas. After taking the task, kartikay left in a hurry to take the round whereas Ganesha started taking rounds of his parents couch. When asked by Lord Shiva, Ganesha answered that according to him, the whole world lies in the feet of parents. After hearing this, Lord Shiva blessed Ganesha that anyone who will worship you on the fourth lunar day will be free from sins.

Kartikay, the son of Lord Shiva was upset due to his failure in the race with Lord Ganesha. It is considered that Lord Shiva came with 33 Crore devi- devta to make his son happy. Lord Shiva blessed him that Ganga will come here every year and other devi devtas too.

The temple is located in Batala state, Punjab. The temple is located at a7 kilometers distance from the main city. Taxi and buses are easily available at Gurdas Pur railway station. Also Raja Rasi airport of Amritsar will be the nearest airport.
